Sprecher Brewing Company
Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Founded in 1985

The Sprecher brewing company was started by a former Pabst employee with the intent to revive old-world brewing practices. Judging by the qualities of Black Bavarian, they have certainly achieved their goal.

Black Bavarian is true to its namesake as a bottom-fermented German lager that’s dark as a moonless night. It pours with a creamy tan head that falls quickly to reveal molasses and smoke aromas. This 6% ABV Shwarzbier gains its color from dark malts which release intense essences of coffee, caramel, and dark chocolate.

The light body and smooth, rich taste make this brew a delight drink. It’s great to find an easy drinking lager with so much flavor. Fortunately it comes in a pint bottle so there’s plenty to enjoy.

Sprecher Black Bavarian has done the style right and is a pleasure to drink. Serve this one warm at about 60 degrees to experience the full flavor palette.

May the Shwarzbier be with you.

I give this brew a five stein rating.
