India Pale Ale
Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. Chico, California
Founded 1979

Sierra Nevada, founded by two home brewers, was one of the earliest and most influential craft breweries and is currently the seventh largest brewing company in the United States. Sierra Nevada set the stage for many micro brewers to follow and they command respect for staying true to their quality and environmental standards despite growing into a large corporation.

Flipside, which is marketed as a fall beer ready for all those looking to leave the summer brews behind, is beautiful with it’s ruby red hue. You can tell by the appearance that a robust flavor awaits.

Flipside Red IPA pours with a bountiful head releasing aromas of pine and citrus. I marvel at the redness of this IPA as I wait for the fluffy head to diminish. The froth is stubborn and I am thirsty so I dive in anyway and experience essences of grapefruit and a heavy bitterness that bring my taste buds to life. The head stays around like a foamy blanket keeping carbon dioxide in and releasing floral scents until the very last sip.

Flipside is a refreshing, flavorful, and mildly potent brew at 6.2% ABV. I highly recommend it, but just be ready for a bit of bitterness as this ale comes in at 60 IBUs.
Enjoy!
